If your child is passionate about science, the Oliphant Science Awards is a great opportunity for them to explore this interest. Below are a few tips and thoughts from parents who have been involved in the competition:
- Let them find something they're passionate about and see how they can explore that in one of the categories available
- Be their sounding board to talk about and develop their idea
- Encourage their interest:
- Take them to the library to find resources
- Help them source materials for their project
- Take them on an adventure to find inspiration and information
- Make sure you have the key dates in your calendar!
- Understand what is required of their project. Each category has a webpage with the rules, judging rubrics and project checklists
It's great to see what they're learning and they come out of it with a new piece of knowledge they are passionate about.
They are always learning regardless of the results!
