We are excited to have Saheli as an OSA Ambassador for 2024. Shaeli has been participating in the competition for almost 10 years with over 20 projects submitted. She continues to foster her passion for science through the competition and is excited to share it with her peers.

Get to know Saheli!

How did you first get involved in OSA?
I first got involved in OSA in 2015 when I was in reception. My first project was a poster about Drones in Action

Why do you participate?
I participate in OSA because I have found that it is a great way to put your passion for science in action and be able to have a fair bit of creative freedom in a way you present your ideas.

What advice would you give to other OSA entrants?
My advice to other OSA entrants would be to find a category and topic you are really interested in because it makes a world of difference being able to explore an area you would like to delve deeper into.

What is your favourite project that you have submitted?
My favourite project that I have submitted to OSA is hard to pick!  I would have to say that it is a tie between a project I did a few years ago under the ‘Models and Inventions’ category which was a ‘bladeless windscreen wiper.’ I realised that as a driver it must be distracting to have the wipers going across your windshield as you drive in the rain. Using nanotechnology, I created a prototype for a bladeless version of the traditional windscreen wiper. Another one of my favourite projects is the ‘Multimedia’ category I did on the science of spice. It was very interesting to learn about and also fun to create!

Our ambassadors will be at our 2024 Open Day at Science Alive! in August, where you will have the opportunity to meet them and talk all things science!
