Sarah Finney

School / Organisation: Stirling East Primary School

Current role: Teacher Year 5/6

What inspired you to become a science teacher? My driving passion for Science and my enjoyment for sharing the wonder.

How many years have you been teaching? Close to 22

Why did you join the SASTA Board? I've always been curious about what went on during board meetings, and I thought my divergent thinking might prove useful sometimes.

Are there any other committees / organisations you are involved with? Member Services Reference Group (SASTA), and Australian Education Union

If you could travel back in time and attend any scientific discovery or experiment in history, which one would it be, and why? I'd be on the Beagle with Charles Darwin, helping him document the beaks of birds. Evolution is extraordinary and a complete marvel.

If you were to sum up your teaching philosophy in one sentence, what would it be? Being silly in the correct measure, being flexible, being able to embrace when you are wrong  and bringing enthusiasm to each lesson will help you build relationships with students; they will engage with the subject matter and surprise you with the learning they can achieve.
