Apply for a grant of up to $4,000 to bring a new space education project or challenge to life for your students with The Andy Thomas Space Foundation’s Mars Challenge Program.

Mars Challenge Program

Held annually, and open to all South Australian Secondary and Combined R-12 schools, the Mars Challenge Program invites teachers and school leaders to develop a new space education project in their school or learning community.

10 x grants of up to $4,000 are available in 2025, with successful schools also having the opportunity to engage with excursions to participate in the ‘Mission To Mars’ program at Hamilton Secondary College, tailored visits to the Australian Space Agency’s Australian Space Discovery Centre at Lot Fourteen, and to access the Aldrin Family Foundation’s Giant Mars Map to help deliver their proposed project.

How To Apply

To apply, teachers are required to develop a project proposal which seeks to encourage students to solve a space-based problem aligned with the concepts of space technology or future space exploration.

Proposals are required to address alignment to the Australian Curriculum, and how the Giant Mars Map will be used as a resource to help deliver the project. Projects are intended to be delivered in either Term 2 or Term 3, 2025, with a student showcase to share the outcomes to take place at the Australian Space Discovery Centre on Tuesday 4 November 2025.

Applications are open until Friday 25 April, and can be submitted online by visiting:
