Get to know Jack!

How did you first get involved in OSA?
In year 7 at school we were encouraged to submit science assignments, but it wasn’t until years 11 and 12 that I created my own photography projects outside of school that won me some prizes.

Why do you participate?
I have always greatly enjoyed science, and the OSA have been a great opportunity for me to explore this passion in a competitive setting outside of school. Being able to work on projects that also combine other interests I have such as photography and nature was also great fun.

What advice would you give to other OSA entrants?
Choose a project on a subject you are interested in and where your strengths lie. This both makes it a lot easier to work on your project and make it of higher quality.

What is your favourite project that you have submitted?
Probably my last one, ‘Inconspicuous Terrestrial Arthropods’ a macro photography project which I did on small and interesting native land invertebrates most people wouldn’t know existed. I enjoyed the combination of challenges I had when searching for these species, photographing them, identifying them, and researching their life history for the captions.
