And that's (almost) a wrap for the 2026 competition!

 

We sincerely appreciate the time and effort you all put in to coordinate the competition from your end - it's a pleasure for us to work with you and we've loved seeing most of you at some point over the last week.

 

What's next?

Results are available in your Coordinator Portal!

You can now see whether you have any winning projects; head to Project Management, 2026 / manage projects and scroll down; a new column will have appeared in the table listing your registered projects called Awards. In this column, you will see a hyperlink has appeared that says "View All". Click on this link, and in the pop up window that appears, under the project title, you will see either YES or HC; Yes = they're a place winner, HC = their project was Highly Commended. If there is nothing under the project title in the pop up window, the project(s) is not a winner this year.   

 

If you or your students missed out on attending Science Alive!, Virtual Open Day is for you! Coming in mid-September, you'll be able to view all winning and Highly Commended projects on display on our website. Also handy for interstate or international family members!

 

Invitations to the Presentation Ceremony will be sent out to prize-winning students care of their school coordinators (you!) in the next couple of weeks, when SASTA staff have had a chance to catch their breath. The Presentation Ceremony will be held on Friday 23rd October; for those who have had winners in the past and have again this year, we've changed venues, so please be mindful of that.

Note, we do not disclose what place students have won until the night of the Presentation Ceremony - we find this helps to keep the excitement alive!

 

All students who submitted a project for judging will receive Participation Certificates and they will be sent to schools in early Term 4. Prize winners and Highly Commended will also receive a Participation Certificate for their efforts (note, participation certificates are per student, not per project entered.

 

Mark it in your diary now - we're throwing a party for you, the coordinators, and the wonderful volunteers who make this competition happen; Friday 30th October after school (usually starting at 4.30pm). Come along, hang out and have your first drink (whether that's a soft drink, a cup of tea, a glass of wine or a beer!) on us! All country coordinators are also invited (of course!) however we are aware that the distance to travel is not practical! To let us know if you're able to come, please RSVP here. 

 

You probably do not want to know about it yet(!) but the topics for 2027 will be available in early December 2026, so if you have any ideas, feel free to send them through to the office! The topics are usually decided upon in October / November, so if you have ideas, the earlier you send them through, the better chance we have of being able to include them.

 

We're always looking for volunteers to join the Oliphant Science Awards committee, so if you would like to have more input and find out more about what goes on behind the scenes, fill in this form to let us know!
